Dawn Buckingham is passionate about painting on location (en plein air), and hopes to visually capture the story and share the moment of the place through her painting. She feels that becoming an artist has given her the gift of seeing and experiencing the world in a new and enhanced way. Dawn believes that the arts have a major role to play as a tool for raising awareness of the effects of global warming and the consequences of human activity on our planet. “My growth as an artist is a journey of personal expression, appreciating moments in time, and sharing my joy of painting with others through creating and teaching.”
Dawn began painting after retirement from education as a teacher, curriculum developer and most recently, Director of Education for a non-profit organization. After a lifetime of living in Colorado, she has relocated to southern California to pursue plein air painting, inspired by the richness of color and unique light of the area. And…the comfort of painting outside in all seasons.
Dawn is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of Colorado and is actively involved with several plein air groups in California and Colorado. Her work has been recognized with awards in both local and juried national shows, and plein air competitions. Her students and collectors include both US and International patrons.
